Hiking, walking, moving and exercising is very important. The climate here makes it possible to be outside every day in the fresh air. Along with fresh fruits and vegetables you can easily balance yourself. There are gymnastic gear in several places. Below are some easy walks to start with.
WALKING
You can start by walking on the long pavement / boardwalk which in Almuñécar is 6 km long and in La Herradura 2 km long. There are cafes, bars and restaurants pretty much everywhere so you don’t have to carry your lunch bag.
NATURE TRAIL
At Velilla, where the walk ends at the roundabout, there is a path that follows the coast. It’s called Parque Mediterraneo. Up towards the hotel and down on the beach with the 2 bars and continue along the water to the last beach.
PUENTE ROMANO
At hotel Cotobro, there are 2 roads going north. Take the left and soon there is a path to the right. Follow it up the hill and take the first road to the left. After the bridge that is about 2000 years, continue west, and take it gently down the long stairs down to the sea.
RIO SECO
At the far end of the Camino Rio Seco, go out into the dry riverbed. Go as far as you like and see some of the old aqueducts. Turn when appropriate. Bring water bottle.
RIO VERDE
Behind Repsol, a road goes into the Chirimoya forest, La Vega. After a while you come out into the Rio Verde (green dry river) and can walk all the way up to Torrecuevas, which is the northern part of Almuñécar. There you can see the large fine aqueduct, rest on a bar and possibly take the bus back to the center. Avoid going back as there are no sidewalks.
COTOBRO – LA HERRADURA
Option 1. Follow the road which is steep, curvy and beautiful. At the top is a three-way intersection, plus a narrow road that goes down to La Herradura. Take it. From La Herradura you can take the bus back.
Option 2. Walk down the beach and follow the path to the nude beach of Playa Muerte. About midway, so look up the stairs in the forest. After about 50 steps up, go left. Carefully walk on the narrow, steep path and continue the path to the hotel. Feel free to head down to Marina del Este, or continue to La Herradura.
