Costa Tropical is the pristine and genuinely Spanish coast between the Costa Del Sol and the Costa Almeria. This is where the fruit chirimoya is grown because of the subtropical climate.

Costa Tropical is the coast of the province of Granada and is located between the Mediterranean Sea in the south and the Sierra Nevada mountains in the north, in the region of Andalucia in southern Spain. The coastline is only 80 km long with 21 beaches and 14 small coves, and here are the famous Los Pueblos Blancos (the white villages). It is only here that the good fruit Chirimoya grows, due to the subtropical climate. That’s why so many want to stay down here over the winter. The warm winds from the Sahara and the healthy winds from the Atlantic that sweep in through the Gibraltar Sound, make the climate very pleasant. Here we have never had minus degrees or snow down by the coast. It is not too hot in summer and not too cold in winter. The Costa Tropical probably has the best climate on the European mainland, because Chirimoyan thrives so well.Chirimoyan was imported from South America in the early 16th century and is also known as vanilla apple.
This is a perfect place to live a comfortable life in the winter with free sun therapy.
The Costa de Almeria is the coast of the province of Almeria and is located east of our coast.
The Costa del Sol is the coast of the province of Malaga and lies to the west, with the famous tourist towns of Nerja, Malaga, Torremolinos, Benalmadena, Fuengirola, Marbella, San Pedro de Alcantara and Estepona. Only known tourist destinations. – And a lot of people.
Gibraltar is located in the province of Cadiz, even further west. The Spanish mainland and Europe’s southernmost point is called Punta Marroqui de Tarifa.
It was the ancient Phoenician traders who discovered this coast about 3,000 years ago due to its fine climate, fertile lands and a good place to trade. The coast has been popular since then with both Roman and Arab rule. Since 1492, it has been Spanish and is gradually becoming a place where more and more people are realizing that it is important for health to have a good climate. The proximity to northern Europe, fast air connections and very good roads if you want to drive here, means that many come here in the winter.
The city of Granada is the capital of the province and has a university that was founded as early as 1531, and which has students from all corners of the world.
Granada is best known for the ancient Moorish fortress Alhambra, which began to be built in 1238 and the palace itself was built in 1526 and has become Spain’s most visited tourist destination, approved by UNESCO, as well as the Sierra Nevada massif, with its peak Mulhacén, which is 3,489 meters high.

Muslims have been of great importance to the entire Costa Tropical during the Nazi era. The Arabs built several cities with their defense fortresses and watch towers to protect themselves from the Christians.
When Spain became a Christian, the coast was attacked by pirates such as Berbers, Turks and even Frenchmen in recent times.
Here are the many small white villages, Los Pueblos Blancos. All villages have their charm. For example, the 3 small white villages: Guajar Fondon, Guajar Faraguit and Guajar Alto, which are worth a visit. Go there and experience the tranquility. Walk around and take photos. Sit in the sun and have a tapas and study Spanish culture. At Costa Tropical it is a pleasant pace and it makes you feel comfortable here. Only in the province of Granada do you have free tapas (a plate with something edible) when you order beer or wine.
In summer, the beaches are full of Chiringuitos, where you grill sardines on skewers over an open fire. Very good and very Spanish. Read more about the summer restaurants and where they are located, along the entire Costa Tropical coast at:
Costa Tropical is the southern part of the Province of Granada and consists of 17 municipalities / municipalities. The municipalities are relatively small. Everything from Motril with 56,000 inhabitants to the smallest of a few hundred.
The 19 municipalities in alphabetical order:
When the Arabs were expelled from Granada and the Alhambra on January 2, 1492, most settled on the southern slope of the Sierra Nevada and all the way down to the sea. At that time, Arabs had lived in this part of Spain since the mid-700s. So a little more than 700 years. There are many generations and it is easy to understand that they felt at home here. In this area called Las Alpujarras, they then built the characteristic white houses with flat roofs with sun-dried mud, which has given the name to the white villages of Los Pueblos Blancos, which became so famous in Andalusia. They lived on what was available, fish from the sea, grapes for wine and raisins, olives, almonds and vegetables.

Rent a car and go up the mountains and hike.
Modern tourists want to be active and the terrain invites to nice walks. You can basically go up into the mountains and park your car a bit anywhere, provided it does not stand in the way or stand on someone’s private land. Hiking trails, roads and paths are everywhere. Everything that is grown is private and it is not allowed to pick fruits or vegetables.
The terrain is very varied. From villages that are just down by the sea, to villages that are high up in the mountains, almost at a height of 1000 meters. Roads that go near the beach, through plastic tents with vegetables, to roads with a breathtaking view. Beautiful as it suggests.
Wonderful landscapes such as the valley up from Salobreña towards Granada, when driving on the old road. There, the river Rio Guadalfeo, which comes with its water from the Sierra Nevada, has been digging out of the mountains for many thousands of years. It’s so that you are amazed.
Golf
On the Costa Tropical there is only one golf course and it is located between Salobreña and Motril, and is called Los Moriscos. Very beautiful course that is nicely located with a view of the Mediterranean and also the Sierra Nevada. Read more at www.moriscosgolf.com
skis
Water skiing can be done in many places along the coast, both summer and winter, but for alpine skiing you have to go up to Sierra Nevada. Slalom skiing in the morning and water skiing in the afternoon can be something to brag about.
